The original plan, or inception, of Cavaletti Vineyards was to produce a single red blend of Grenache and Syrah. The vineyard sources we had at the time didn't lend themselves well to those varieties being blended. It took seven vintages to finally uncover the right vineyard sources to make this blend happen and a missing third component, Graciano. The core of the wine is Grenache, but Graciano delivers lively fruit and a rich mid-palate. Stylistically inspired by the old vine Grenache-dominant cult wines of Spain, this blend features 40% Grenache, 40% Graciano, and 20% Syrah aged for 22 months in French oak (40% new). The Grenache is sourced from Ventura County vineyards that we farm, while Graciano and Syrah are sourced from a vineyard tucked into a warm pocket of the Santa Ynez Valley. It has weight and magnificence while still maintaining elegance. Intense aromatics, finely grained tannins, and a finish that keeps you coming back for more.
