California has been slow to embrace Spain's beloved grape,Tempranillo. This is a shame because Tempranillo lives somewhere between the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the elegance of Pinot Noir. In our locale it thrives in both the high desert vineyards of Antelope Valley and in the warmer locations of Santa Ynez. This vintage is blended from Tempranillo sourced from two vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley and picked at the peak of ripeness in early November. Aged for two years in 25% new American oak barrels. Blended with 2% Alicante Bouschet for aromatics and 1% Petit Verdot for structure. Black plum, cocoa, cedar, and firm tannins with a balanced acid profile that makes it perfect for pairing with food or enjoying on its own.
Smashed-up black plums are dusted with dark-cocoa spice on the nose of this bottling, which includes 5% Alicante Bouschet. Warm cocoa and coffee flavors lead into fruity boysenberry notes on the palate, as chalky tannins carry into a caramelized finish.
